We get a lot of questions about our Super Sprout™ Sprouted Whole Grain Wheat Flour and how best to bake with it. We've compiled a list of some of the top questions and answers for you on the blog today! Check it out!
1) What is Super Sprout™?
Super Sprout™ is a sprouted whole grain, whole wheat flour made by our proprietary sprouting process. It is a dry, shelf stable flour that can be used cup for cup for white or whole wheat flour in any recipe. Super Sprout™ has increased nutrition and a naturally sweeter taste. It’s easier to digest and great for individuals with diabetes and gluten sensitivities (not Celiac’s).
2) What can I bake with Super Sprout™?
We make sandwich and loaf breads, pancakes, waffles, pizza, cookies, and even pie crusts…the sky is the limit! You can also substitute it into your favorite recipe for white (all purpose) or whole wheat flour, although you may need to add a bit more water. (Recipes Here)
3) Does Super Sprout™ contain gluten?
Super Sprout™ is made out of wheat, so it absolutely contains gluten. Our proprietary sprouting process alters the gluten to make it more easily digestible for those with gluten sensitivities. However, we never advise those with Celiac’s Disease to eat Super Sprout™ since they are likely too sensitive to the gluten present, even in its altered form. If you want to know more about how the gluten sensitive population can eat Super Sprout™, check out this testimonial from one of our customers.
4) How will Super Sprout™ be different from whole wheat flour?
Super Sprout™ allows a higher water absorption than regular whole wheat flour because of the sprouting process and its super fine grind. Additionally, it lacks phytic acid which is what prevents humans from gaining much of the nutrition present in whole wheat flour. Your final bread will be naturally sweeter and more golden brown because of the increased caramelized sugars, so you'll need to monitor the baking time closely. Your baked goodies will also stay fresh longer when made with of Super Sprout™.
5) How will it be different from other sprouted flours?
Our proprietary process results in a higher water absorption, increased nutritional value and a sweeter taste. It is also more easily digestible, does not spike sugar levels for diabetics, and is incredibly versatile.
6) What recipes are there that are specifically formulated for Super Sprout™?
We love both of these simple breads with Super Sprout™:
